Criminal Justice, Associate - Emphasis on Corrections

The Criminal Justice degree (A.S.) program in El Cajon is designed to prepare graduates for entry into state, local, or federal law enforcement, corrections, or private security. Students will study the U.S. Constitution, American court systems, Federal and California state laws, and past and current criminal trends. Students will be prepared to properly articulate, format, and complete various reports and professional communication. Before graduation, students will be introduced to the application process for various local, state, and federal agencies.

The Associate of Science is available in four emphasis areas and builds upon the Criminal Justice & Public Safety program. Students must choose one emphasis path in either Criminal Investigations, Corrections, Homeland Security, or Corporate Security & Public Safety.

An Associate Degree in Corrections is a 15-16 months program to prepare students for entry-level criminal justice and corrections careers. Students of this program learn criminal law, rules and regulations of the correctional facility, communication skills, psychology, and ethical and moral standards. The coursework includes criminal justice theory and practical instruction, enabling students to interact with inmates, manage their behavior, and ensure safety.

After completing the 9-month Criminal Justice and Public Safety diploma program at ATA College, students can continue with courses in the Associate of Science program. The Associate of Science in Criminal Justice is available in multiple emphasis pathways and can be completed in an additional six months after general education courses.

Upon graduation, you can work in homeland security, corrections, corporate security, crime scene investigations, and more. ATA College has an Educational Alliance with Grand Canyon University for students completing this associate degree program successfully.
