Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician Training for | El Cajon Ca 1


This Electrocardiogram Technician training course prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians and nurses, to administer EKG and ECG diagnostic examinations and report results to the treatment team. This includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology, the cardiovascular system, medical terminology, cardiovascular medications and effects, patient care, EKG and ECG administration, equipment operation and maintenance, interpretation of cardiac rhythm, patient record management, and professional standards and ethics. Upon completion of this EKG technician course, ATA College students will be eligible to take the national certification exam.

This EKG technician training program leads towards credit in the Medical Assistant, Associate of Applied Science program

Prerequisite Required

This is an accelerated program!

Due to the difficulty and speed of this course, the Medical Assistant program must be completed prior to enrollment. Programs from other colleges or prior medical experience may be used to fulfill the prerequisite with approval from the admissions department.

Anatomy and Physiology

This EKG technician course provides an overview of the human body. It introduces students to the structure, function, and diseases of the human body. It also introduces students to related terminology used in the clinical settings to describe body positions and parts. Emphasis will be on cardiovascular system.

Medical Terminology
MT 118 Medical Terminology for EKG/ECG

0.66 Credits

This EKG technician course introduces the student to medical terminology as they relate to the anatomical structure of the human body. Introduction to body system root words, prefixes, suffixes, and introductory terminology. Emphasis is on cardiovascular system terminology. Medical language and accepted medical abbreviations related to electrocardiograms.

Electrocardiography Procedures
EKG 190 Electrocardiography Procedures

2.00 Credits

This EKG technician course provides comprehensive instruction on electrocardiographs, characteristics of normal electrocardiogram rhythms, procedures, and quality assurance protocol. Upon completion of this course, ATA College students will be eligible to take the national certification exam.
